Pensioners of the Police System Are Threatening with Demonstrations

03.10.05.“Media News” -  The Force Structures and the Georgian Veterans of WWII oppose the new law on State Benefits prepared by the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs.

Members of the association of pensioners and veterans “Abjari” say that the new law will reduce their state benefits. The pensioners were receiving reductions on gas, electricity, phone calls and other services from 1997.

“If the new law will be passed, “Article 45” will also be cancelled. According to this article, the pensions of veterans and invalids should be doubled from 2006 onwards. In the law word “pension” is changed to “compensation”, thus the government preserves the right to annul the compensations,”- says the head of “Abjari” Ioseb Mestiashvili.

The veteran-pensioners demand to re-discuss the law together with professional lawyers. If their demands are not taken into consideration, the pensioners will hold massive demonstrations.
