Accident at Baku-Supsa Oil Pipeline

October 5, 2005

Accident at Baku-Supsa Oil Pipeline

04/10/05, “Media News” – About 60 tons of oil has leaked from the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline in the village Norio in the Gardabani district of Southern Georgia due to illegal tapping. The oil gushed from the pipeline for more than 6 hours. Fortunately, the accident took place far from the populated area and the oil did not pour into the river Norio.

Specialists think that the reason for the leak was theft of oil.  Several holes were discovered in the Norio Section of the pipeline.

“British Petroleum” is working on the mitigation of the outcomes. The company will pay compensations to the inhabitants of the area.
