Officials of the Border Defense Department to Leave for Lithuania

09/10/05, “Media News” - Head of the State Department of Frontier Guards, lieutenant-general Badri Bitsadze and his deputy Ekaterine Gigauri will today leave on an official visit to Vilnius.

Georgian officials will hold meetings with their Lithuanian colleagues.

The aim of the visit is to get familiar with the experience of Lithuanian border guards and to bring the border defense department closer to European standards.


Within the frameworks of the visit, a discussion shall follow on several questions like: the reforms that will be implemented in the Georgian border department intended to make it cooperate closer with police structures; the issues connected to integration of the Georgian Border Guard Department into institutions of the European Union.

In addition, information on struggle against contraband, organized crime and illegal migration will be exchanged.
