One more Inmate Dead in the Republican Prison Hospital

18/10/05 „Media News“ – The Monitoring Council of the Penitentiary Department will once again demand explanation from the Minister of Justice of Georgia Konstantine Kemularia.

According to the head of the council Tea Tutberidze, one more inmate has died in the Republican Prison Hospital yesterday. Unofficially, the reason of death was tuberculoses. A unanimous person has informed the council about this death. Tutberidze thinks that this person might be a family member or relative of the prisoner.

The members of the Monitoring Council visited the site, but the Hospital’s Administration did not allow them to enter the building.

“They said they could not let us enter the hospital with our mobile phones. However, it is impossible to work without mobile phone, pen and paper. The administrator did not make comments about the prisoner’s death; he did not answer any of our questions.”- said Tutberidze.

Tutberidze said that the responsibility of the administration of the Prison Hospital, as well as of the Ministry of Justice would be raised.
