Female Inmates Quit Hunger Strike

17/10/05, “Media News”- Prisoners of the Women’s Jail have stopped their protest. The decision was made after the protesters met the head of the Human Rights Defense Committee of the Parliament Elene Tevdoradze. Tevdoradze promised the prisoners to help them with speeding up the examination of their cases.

25 prisoners of Jail №5 started a hunger strike on the 28th of September. They demanded amnesty.

The protesters were put under strict control of the medical department of the jail. Members of the administration tried to persuade the inmates to stop the strike. The protesters quit their hunger strike step-by-step; the last five protesters changed their mind on the 12th of October, after the meeting with Elene Tevdoradze.

According to the representatives of the medical department of the jail, the prisoner’s health condition is stable.
