Mediagroup Started Investigation of Cases on Media Pressure in Kakheti

05.12.2005, “Media News” – Kakhetian regional newspapers “Spectra” and “Kakhetis Khma” (“Voice of Kakheti”) started an investigation of media restriction in the region. All interested media organizations can be involved in the process.

The investigation aims at studying cases of pressure, physical and psychological insult and attacks on journalists during past year. The newspapers demand immediate reaction from the state bodies about these facts.

“The media investigation group demands access to all the documents on cases concerning media pressure. We call upon the police and the government to cooperate with us to find those who are interested in pressurizing the media”, - is said in the statement of the group.

This statement was also sent to international and non–governmental organizations as well as media agencies.

A protest named “Blank Newspaper” was also organized in Gurdjaani. The Kakhetian branch of the Young Georgian Lawyers supported the protest.
