Georgia Down to 130th Place in Corruption Index

20.12.2005, “Media News” – The international non-governmental organization “Transparence International” published its 2005 corruption report. According to the report, the best index from the former Soviet Union countries was taken by Estonia (27th place), Lithuania (44th place) and Latvia (51st place).

In the list of “Transparence International”, Armenia and Moldova occupy the 88th place, Kazakhstan and Ukraine 107th place, Russia is 126th, while Georgia and Kyrgyzstan are indexed 130th.

In the list of the organization, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan hold 137th, Tajikistan 144th, Turkmenistan 155th place. However, the representatives of the organization suspect that the level of corruption in these countries is higher than the record shows.

The first ten places are taken by countries as Iceland, Finland, New Zealand, Denmark, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, the Netherlands and Great Britain. The last three countries hold the tenth place.

In the list Germany is on the 16th place, France 18th, Japan 21st, Spain 23rd, Israel 28th, Italy 40th, Bulgaria 55th, Turkey 65th, Poland 70th, India 88th and Iraq 137th.

Chad and Bangladesh received the highest index of corruption. These countries took the last places in the list.
