Traders from Zugdidi Demand Resignation of Governor and Head of Local Administration

Traders gathered in front of the building of the government blame the Governor and the head of local administration of not executing the regional court’s decision and are demanding their immediate resignation. More than 300 demonstrators state that they are not going to go home until the local government changes its decision about the closing of the entrance to the Central Market.

“The Kutaisi regional court annulled the decision of the local government about the market and gave ten days for opening the door to it. We had hope that this problem would be finally solved, but in vain. The action has started an hour before, the road and the building of the local administration have been blocked, but still nobody notices us. We do not exclude that the police may forcibly disperse us which had happened many times before”- states Marina Bulia, participant of the demonstration.

According to Sulkhan Agumava, a lawyer of the local administration, the local government annulled its decision on closing the entrance door to the Central Market in accordance with the court’s decision: “Ten days later after this ruling, that is three days ago, the local government decided to shut down the market’s central entrance. This, due to the building and repair activities executed on the street in front of the market. The law enables us to act like this”.

Attorneys of the traders, who are now at the demonstration together with them, are not satisfied with the decision of the local government and think about going to the court again.

The action is proceeding with at the background noise and quarrels with the police. Law enforcers are not ready to reply to the question what they would do if the demonstrators do not abandon the streets by themselves…
