Investigation of the Case of Beating the Soldier Up, Has Started

12.01.2006, “Media News” – The private of Artillery Battalion of Akhaltsikhe Military Devision Valery Sarishvili, who was beaten up, went into intensive treatment in the Military hospital. According to the Ombudman’s Office, he was transferred there on the 11th of January from the Clinic of Ac. Otar Ghudushauri.

The lawyer of Sarishvili said that since November 2005, the soldiers in the battalion abused him physically and morally all the time, followed by several attempts from Sarishvili to leave the battalion. But after the pressure from his family members, he was returning back. On the 8th of January, the soldiers threatened him with a knife and demanded to bring money from his family for the prisoners.

The lawyer says that an officer of the Military Division saw the attack on the private Sarishvili, but did not react on it. After the incident Sarishvili escaped from the battalion. He was discovered on the highway covered in blood and was transferred to the Clinic.

The staff of the Ombudsman’s Office received the information from the hotline and visited Sarishvili in the Clinic. The investigation will be conducted under Ombudsman’s private control.
