 Law Enforcers Arrested Russian Journalists

Georgian police detained Russian TV station "Ren-TV's' journalists, who were illegally filming various objects on the Inguri river.

Journalists Sergei Shkvarinin, Andrei Kuzmin and Igor Sakharov were detained at Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs' Fast Response Squad check-point. On February 11 the journalists were transported from Zugdidi to Tbilisi via train in order to find out whether they were really TV station "Ren-TV's" journalists. After the Russian TV channel confirmed their identity the journalists were released.

According to "Ren-TV", the journalists were visiting Abkhazia for 12 days after which they went to neighboring Samegrelo region where they were detained by Georgian law enforcers.

The journalists have arrived in Georgia in order to produce a documentary on the Georgian-Abkhazian war of 1992-1993.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs states that the journalists didn't have accreditation and the filming permit. The law enforcers returned the journalists' camera and tapes; however, some of the footage containing strategic objects and Fast Response Squad check-points was erased.
