Index of Economic Freedom in Georgia Shows Signs of Improvement

Tbilisi, 16.02.2006, “Media News” – According to the American Institute of Policy Research and Analysis “Heritage Foundation”, in 2006 Georgia was placed into the group of “Partly Liberated” countries, rated against the Index of Economic Freedom. In 2005, Georgia belonged to the “Partly Restricted” category. The Institute relies on data, provided by the country’s government, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and other International Organizations. The Index is divided into four categories: “Liberated”, “Partly Liberated”, “Partly Restricted” and “Restricted”.

The issues surrounding Economic Freedom were the main topics of discussion at the meeting, held by the “Federation of Georgian Businessmen”. The head of the “Heritage Foundation”, Marc Miles, met Georgian businessmen and experts there.

As said at the meeting, the “Heritage Foundation” is a well-known around the world as a research institute. Information published by the organization is used by International and State organizations of different countries, scientists and businessmen. So, the last set of data about Georgia only improves the image of the country to the world and thus increases international interests towards the country.
