Nana Kakabadze: Georgia does not fulfill it’s obligations under the Council of Europe

Tbilisi.24.02.06.Media News. Today, the NGO “Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights” held a press conference on: “Torture and Inhuman Degrading Treatment in the Prisons of Georgia and the Estimations of the Council of Europe”.

“Massive violations of prisoners rights by torture and inhuman treatment are exposed in the prisons of Georgia” – stated the head of the NGO “Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights”, Nana Kakabadze.

According to her, the situation in Georgia is critical. She also mentioned that Georgia is the only country among the 46 member states of the Council of Europe that did not respond to the recommendations on the measures against torture. Unfortunately, one of the requirements of the Council of Europe is neglected completely. The recommendation was about not leaving penitentiary departments under the control of the Interior Ministry.

According to Irakli Kakabadze, it’s time to stop human rights violations in Georgia and violating the right to life. “The torture and violations of the rights of prisoners are sanctioned by the government”.
