Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs Demands That Belarus Law Enforcers Release Georgian Journalists

Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs will refuse to “have any sort of cooperation” with the Belarusian Law enforcers if that country’s militia don’t release journalist Nino Giorgobiani and photographer Giorgi Laghidze representing Georgian Public Broadcasting.

Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs protests against the detention of Georgian journalists and demands their immediate release.

Belarusian Security Forces detained the film crew of Georgian Public Broadcasting in Minsk on March 24.
The journalists were covering the presidential elections held in that country and the ensuing protest rallies organized by the oppositional forces.

According to Director General of Public Broadcasting Tamar Kintsurashvili, there’s no information about the whereabouts of the arrested journalists yet. She said she was trying to contact Georgia’s Consul in Ukraine Zurab Kvachadze, who had gone to Minsk yesterday by train in order to inquire about the fate of the detained journalists.

Kintsurashvili states that the Belarusian law enforcers are trying to qualify the Georgian journalists’ activities as hooliganism.
