Decision on the Case of Entrants is to be taken today

Tbilisi. 28.03.06. Media News. Today, the Tbilisi City Court will make its final decision regarding three university applicants: Gvantsa Narozauli, Teona Kiknadze and Tamar Maisuradze. The applicants demand to be included on the Students List which, due to the 2005 Unified National University Entrance Examinations, lists all those students who can enroll at different universities

The applicants sued the Ministry for the Education and Science of Georgia and the National Assessment and Examinations Center. The prospective student’s interests are also being protected by NGOs such as ‘Students- Alternative’ and ‘Article 42 of the Constitution’.

The head of ‘Students-Alternative’, Lasha Bliadze, told the ‘Media News’ that at first the applicants mentioned above, along with 68 other prospective students, were included in the Students List. However, the National Assessment and Examination Centre later removed their names from the list without giving any reasons for doing so. The Centre then stated that the students had been placed on the list because of a technical error. The error was later corrected and 71 names were removed from the list.

This explanation was not satisfactory for at least three prospective students, out of the 71, who decided to apply to the court. In October, 2005 the three students started a case in the Tbilisi City Court. “We hope that the court will make a fair decision. If the rights of the applicants are again violated, we will apply to higher institutions”, said Lasha Bliadze.
