Opposition Wants the Government to Resign

On the 30th of March there was a meeting in front of the parliament, which ended up peacefully. The organizers changed their requests and they are demanding the parliamentary and presidential election. Six opposition parties, NGOs, scientists, professors and other citizens dream about the state where there won’t be criminals.

10.000 people gathered at the demonstration that started at 3 o’clock. The people from the regions joined them with their posters (“Samegrelo is with you,” “Qvemo Qartli is joining you,” “Kakheti is here”). Those who could not come had the similar demonstrations in the regions. For this time students joined the protest action. They had several demands: the resignation of the government, the new election, the firing of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Prime Minister, the independent court system, illegal imprisonments and they also wanted to open the case of Sandro Gvirgvliani.

There were spec stuff on the meeting, but they did not act and did not use the army. The organizers reminded the government their demands and at 6 o’clock the meeting ended up.

Soso Shatberashvili – the representative of the labor party: “The only thing we demanded it was the cancellation of cash meters. Other layers also joined us, these are scientists, doctors, teachers, writers union, university, it is anti Georgian anti social marionette government, we wanted to have the dialogue with them, but they refused. It is understandable that they won’t go willingly simply and all of us want to persuade the foreign back of our government that the government should go, their coming is equal to destabilization.”

As for scientists who were the first coming to the meeting - are independent high schools. Shota Vashakidze scientists “It is a bit surprising, the government managed to unite us. We want the autonomy in science and education, it should be governed by professionalisms; it is not understandable for me what does the reform serve with.”

As for ordinary citizens they do not want to be involved in the politics. They want to leave peacefully. Ketevan Lomidze – “I am a labor woman, the government left us without the bread and butter, not to mention the fact that they are killing people as if they are animals. How many innocent people died during the special operations!.. I don’t want to live in the police government. I want to live in the state where the law works. The protest of the people is crucial in order to achieve the aim.”

The participant of the meeting took the rose symbol of the Rose Revolution and put it in the black ribbon and burnt it. Another meeting is planned on the day of independence - 26th of May. The opposition is giving the time to the government for thinking whilst they will visit regions to mobilize people there.
