Newspaper ‘Imedi’ is not Publishing in Kakheti Anymore

Kakhetian newspaper ‘Imedi’ has not been published for the last two weeks. The reason of cancellation of issuing the independent newspaper was the decision of Gela Mtivlishvili, editor in chief, who quit his job.

Before that, because of the intimidation, designer of the paper also left the job. Besides quite high salary, none of the designers in the regions wanted to work for the newspaper ‘Imedi’. That is why editor in chief himself was fulfilling technical aspects during the print.

“After several assassinations and blackmails we also need a rest. After the pressure on our newspaper, the representatives of the government refused to give comments for our correspondent. We have problems in distribution as well. The deputy governor Valeri Vardosanidze did not give permission to the owners of the shops, to sell newspaper. Moreover, we planned to publish new monthly bulletin ‘Criminal Kakheti’ from April, which is also cancelled. We hope publishing of ‘Imedi’ will continue from April, but still it is not confirmed”, declared deputy of Editor Marina Gogoladze. 

According to Gela Mtivlishvili, ‘Imedi’ editor in chief, he left the job because of the problems with health. “My health condition is not stable. Moreover, the court is discussing cases against me. I simply do not have time to make management of the newspaper. That is why I make this decision,” explains Gela Mtivlishvili. However, he is not going to stop his journalistic career.

The correspondent of ‘Imedi’ Inga Shiolashvili, who was also working for Dedoplistskaro Regional Administration, was fired several days ago. The reason of her dismissal was the fact that she participated in the protest against pressure on journalists, held in Gurjaani.
