NGOs Demand Creation of Independent Investigative Group

Tbilisi, 05.04.06, ‘Media News’ – The Coalition of Georgian NGOs, ‘Civil Society For Democratic Georgia’, made an offer to Parliament to establish an independent investigative group, in response to the recent high profile murders.

The Director of ‘Article 42 of the Constitution’, Lia Mukhashavria, declared at a press-conference that public concern about the recent murders in Georgia should be directed to ensuring that criminals are punished. The Coalition believes that the existing state structures are not capable of executing an independent investigation.

The Coalition offered parliament a proposal to set up an independent investigative group to discover the truthful facts about the case and this group should be established using a legal act of Parliament.

The members of the Coalition asked the President, the Parliament, international organizations, society and the media to support the initiative to set up the independent investigative group.
