Russian Forces Cover Up Russian Peacekeeper Deaths in Gali Region
Tbilisi, 21.05.06, ‘Media News’ – Eight Russian Peacekeepers died in an accident on the 20th May in the Gali Region.
According to the Ministry of Defence, two military cars from the Samara Battalion were moving at high speed from Zugidi to Gali. One of the drivers could not control his car and the vehicle along with fifteen peacekeepers fell into the river Ojoghore. The soldiers were drunk. Eight people died and three were injured during the accident.
The Georgian Ministry of Defence says that the Russian side tried to block information about the accident. They did not even let the representatives of the UN mission to the scene of the crash.
