Court Left without Judges

June 22, 2006

Court Left without Judges

The Court has stopped working for several days so far in Khelvachauri district. Accordingly, all sorts of court actions are postponed for the uncertain time of period – moreover, the trials are no longer given.

On July 7, High Council of Justice of Georgia disqualified Badri Chamba from his responsibilities, the judge of the Regional Court. Chamba took an appeal against the decision of the Council of Justice consequence of which is still unknown. Badri Shamba does not make any comments regarding the issue.

Meanwhile, his duties have been forwarded to Nodar Bolkvadze – another judge from the Khelvachauri regional court; though he did not react on this fact. There is one judge left in the regional court – Miran Khimshiashvili, who is not able to fulfill his duties because of his feeble health since June 9.

Court trials of all the cases in the regional courts have been stopped. According to Irakli Abashidze, the assistant of Badri Chamba, “We are requesting the Appeal Court to prolong the deadline of those cases which are already limited”.

It is intended that the new cases will be heard by Zhana Jibladze – judge in the Khelvachauri Regional Court (being sent to the court of Batumi).
