TV Company 25 is Being Impaired

Yesterday, the NGOs and Media representatives held a peaceful demonstration in front of the Achara government building for giving and showing support to Batumi TV Company 25.

The TV Company is located in the building of hotel “Medea” which has recently been purchased by the Cossacks. The thing to be mentioned is that during 6 days the hotel building has been cut off the supply of electricity which was the reason of causing broadcasting problems. The NGOs representatives reckon that the TV Company 25 is being destabilized.

Avto Gadabakhadze, the head of Information Service: “We are not eliminating that there exists hidden will for taking control over the media. It is apparent that the investors are influenced by some unknown persons in connection with our relocation. On the bases of information spread, the investors were not forcing the TV Company to leave the building. This is underlined by the TV Company as well.

The TV Company 25 has been located in the “Medea” hotel building since 1995. It had concluded a contract with the hotel administration (the government being 100% owner of it) that the TV Company would not move out of the building until 2008. “All the articles relating to selling the hotel or other responsibilities of the sides for certain cases, are omitted deliberately”, - announced Gadakhabadze.

It must be highlighted that the TV Company tried to broadcast via a cable television. “However, the cable television is forbidden to broadcast within the package of TV Company 25. Otherwise, it is threatened to be checked by the Financial Police”, - deduce the third sector representatives.

Supporting demonstration lasted for a short time. Nearby the demonstrators police tried to be completely mobilized.
