Georgian Refugees from Abkhazia Ask Asylum to Abkhazian Government

Tbilisi, 29.06.06, ‘Media News’ – Georgian IDPs, who were forced to leave the ‘Meskheti Hotel’ in Batumi, intend to walk to Abkhazia and ask asylum to separatist Government.

They are protesting against the amount of money, which the Kazakh investor offered them as compensation. IDPs declare that 7 thousand dollars is not enough to buy a place to live. They could not negotiate with the investor about raising the amount of money.

According to IDPs the Adjarian Government also did not pay attention to their problem. They could not manage to organize meeting with Levan Varshalomidze, the head of Ministerial Council of Adjara.

After that IDPs planned to walk to Abkhazia and to ask asylum from Abkhazian Government. According to them, they have already received the living permission guarantee from Abkhaz side.

Several families, living in the hotel ‘Arisi’ joined the rally in Kobuleti.
