NGOs held Demonstration in front of the Prosecutor’s office

Tbilisi, 13.07.06, Media News. Today, three Human Rights Defender NGOs held demonstration in front of Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office. Members of Community for Human Rights and Defending Justice towards Prisoners’; Fund of Human Rights and Prisoners’ Social Welfare and members of Human Rights Association demanded to discharge the responsibilities from Prosecutor’s offices.

According to Giorgi Laghidze’s report to Media news, president of the Community for Human Rights and Defending Justice towards Prisoners, the Prosecutor’s offices are to supervise the legitimacy in the country. Though, in fact this duty is not discharged.  More precisely, special operations held by police in 2006 victimized not a single person. Though, no representatives of low-enforcement organs were punished. Moreover, the clients of such rampant murder, like assassination of Sandro Girgvliani, are not punished either.

“We protested the arbitrary detention of Irakli Kakbadze and other members of ‘Egalitarian Institute’ at our demonstration as well. Those, who raid demonstrations and kick refugees out in the street, are not punished either. We ask reaction from prosecutor’s offices to these and other law violating facts. We will proclaim distrust to Georgian Prosecutor’s office and inform international organizations about the fact. In addition to it, we work on the letter to Georgian president and demand his response, why Prosecutor’s office does not react to law violating facts.”- Giorgi Laghidze pointed out.
