Will Sighnaghi District Councilor Be Detained?

‘Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre’ learned about the fact that Kakheti County Prosecutor’s office has launched preliminary investigation under Article 333 of Criminal Code.

The case deals with an old seal of Sighnagh Region Administrative Board, what was to be abolished at the moment of creating a new one in 2005, although it is evident that the Sighnaghi Region Administration has not abrogated it and they used to issue number of lease documents using old seal and dates. As the spread information shows present Governor of Sighnaghi District, Berdo Asanishvili, his counselor and former Deputy Governor, Mamuka Mangoshvili and some other officials were leasing thousand acres of land in exchange of corruptive deals with renters.

Official information shows that Kakheti County Prosecutor’s office has interrogated the councilors of several villages in Sighnaghi District as witnesses, who have proved the aforementioned fact. The spread information demonstrates that MP Nugzar Abulashvili, chairman of Sighnaghi District office of ‘National Movement’ was protecting them; however the Prosecutor’s office was informed by him.

Sighnaghi District Governor Berdo Asanishvili and his counselor Mamuka Mangoshvili deny the existence and discovery of old seal in the Administration to us. They call it is fraud.

This fact is withheld by Kakheti County Prosecutor’s office to protect investigation interests. The officials are supposed to be detained in several days.

Gela Mtivlishvili, Kakheti
