Detainees’ Protest in Zugdidi Jail

On 12 August two prisoners from Zugdidi #4 Jail of Detention Department were promptly taken to regional hospital. As it became clear Kakha Berishvili and Zaza Tsulaia had used particular way of expressing their protest. They had swallowed some hand-made sharp iron things. Express operation was made on both of them at the hospital. As doctors state their health conditions are poor, though promising. Berishvili and Tsulaia were sentenced to two-month preliminary detention by Zugdidi District Court. They are accused of keeping and distributing drugs. Detainees’ lawyers abstain from comment at present.
