Delegation of European Commission is not Happy with the Situation existing in Georgian Media

September 13, 2006

Delegation of European Commission in Georgia is not happy with the state of affairs in Georgian media. On September 12 Head of the Delegation Torben Holtze said that "many things should be changed" in Georgian media. He made that statement during the meeting of Georgia-European Union's parliamentary committee that took place in Georgian Parliament.
Holtze underlined the fact that Public Broadcasting was making only one month labor contracts with its employees, which was a flagrant violation of labor legislation and the rights of Public Broadcasting's employees. Holtze also said that there were some reports according to which Georgian journalists were avoiding open criticism of the authorities.
Representative of Georgian Public Broadcasting's administration Khatuna Kveselava said that Mr. Holtze didn't' have correct information, because Public Broadcasting had started to make one year contracts with its employees from spring 2006 and the process was developing stage by stage.
