Sixty-Year-Old Woman Demands Help

October 16, 2006

Relatives of Ms. Naili Gedjadze, living in the village of Metekhi, Kaspi District demand help. Chairman of the Kaspi District Court sentenced sixty-year-old Ms. Naili Gedjadze to preliminary detention at the court hearing which the accused did not attended herself. Thus the prosecutor's office raised mediation on her being declared as a wanted.

Ms. Naili Gedjadze is now defended by Ms. Leila Samkharadze, chairwoman of the 'Christian-Orthodox Union'. According to Leila Samkharadze Kaspi District Judge, Mr. Genadi Miladze passed verdict individually and sentenced innocent woman to imprisonment and declared her wanted.

Ms. Leila Samkharadze states: "Ms. Naili Gedjadze is unfairly oppressed. Prosecutor's Office and Court do their best to acquit and defend the rights of the head of the Police Station".

The point is that on February 21, 2006 Ms. Naili Gedjadze, resident in the village of Metekhi was in Mr. Shota Rostiashvili's quarter, chief of the Kaspi District Police Department.
Ms. Naili Gedjadze demanded the settlement of her conflict with neighbor. Ms. Gedjadze had an argument about a plot. On the basis of her appeal Kaspi District Police dismantled a wire entanglement of her neighbors. On February 21 Ms. Naili Gedjadze arrived at the police station demanding the posts of the wire entanglement be removed as well.  Ms. Gedjadze withdrew 50 USD from her pocket and said putting it on the table -let your policemen enjoy themselves with that money…

Head of the Kaspi District Police Station Shota Rostiashvili considered it to be a bribe and immediately informed the operative policemen about the fact. The investigation on bribery launched immediately and sixty-year-old woman was detained.

On February 23 Kaspi District Court bailed the accused to 10 000GEL. Ms. Gedjadze could not pay the sum and thus the bail changed into imprisonment. The fact does worry the relatives and representatives of the accused.

As for 50 USD, it was also found out where elderly woman could get foreign currency. Ms. Naili Gedjadze's daughter is married to an American and she sends her several hundreds dollars every month. However, Kaspi District Police staff thinks Ms. Gedjadze was specially sent to provoke them.
