The Dedoflistskaro Court Earmarked the Ingilos’ Appeal for Wednesday

January 22, 2007

On January 24, at 12:00 AM, Judge Tamar Chuniashvili will discuss the case at the Dedoflistskaro District Court. She will decide whether the court will launch process on the Ingilos’ suit.

In the 20s of the last century, the Ingilos fled the historical area of Hereti in Azerbaijan in order to escape conversion to Islam. Now, they appeal to the court for help.

The suitors, who are defended by Lia Khuroshvili, a lawyer for the Human Rights Center, demand to abolish the oral administrative reports of the Custom’s Department and the Financial Police.

In their suit, the people draw their attention to unbearable conditions they live in. The hard situation was grave after the Georgia-Azerbaijan linking bridge was locked. The people have had their rights of free transportation, religion and life violated.

We should remind you, that the frontier police officials locked the bridge on the basis of the oral demands of the Custom’s Department and the Financial Police. It happened on December 31, 2005 and the bridge over the Alazani River was blocked for the Herrs living in the village of Samtatskaro. These people cannot contact their relatives who live in Saingilo.
