March 2, 2007

Today, members of the Monitoring Council are going to visit the prisoners in Kutaisi detention setting # 2 and isolator for severe regime within the Penitentiary Department. They speak about unbearable conditions in the Kutaisi detention setting.

“Terrible food is served for prisoners there. I cannot express the impression I have received from the sight there, I would not say anything about situation regarding the medicines and medical service in the prison,” said Manana Managadze, the chairman of the council.

Nearly 1600 prisoners serve their term in the detention setting at the moment.
