Representative of Public Defender Demands That the Incident Concerning the Journalists be Investigated

Head of Monitoring and Investigation Department of Georgian Public Defender’s Office Giga Giorgadze demands that the incident that took place in Tbilisi Court of Appeal on March 19 be investigated.

According to TV stations, court bailiffs physically abused the journalists who were filming the fracas inside the courtroom after the trial of 14 year old Giorgi Zerekidze was over. TV station “Rustavi 2’s” camera was broken.

“It must be investigated whether the bailiffs abused their power” – Giorgadze said, who was a witness to the incident inside the courtroom.
“I saw how they physically assaulted journalists, which was manifested by the physical abuse and damaging of the TV station’s equipment” – Giorgadze said.
