IDPs Residing In Kutaisi Petitioned Prosecutor General

March 30, 2007

IDPs, who reside in Kutaisi, petitioned the Prosecutor General. They urged Zurab Adeishvili to carry out a full investigation concerning the pension granted to people who had participated in Abkhazian Civil War. The government considers the pension illegal and demands the IDPs return that money to the budget.

Regarding the situation IDPs were invited to the Kutaisi District Prosecutor’s Office, where they were interrogated and demanded the money back. Unless they returned the money, the IDPs were sentenced to pre-trial detention. The event was followed with permanent demonstrations in Kutaisi.

“Although, IDPs are no longer invited to the prosecutor’s, they are still sent letters to where they are warned to cover at least part of the state debt. We demand the prosecutor’s general investigated the situation and file criminal charges against some high-ranking officials. The misunderstanding had been originated from their orders,” said Zurab Khurtsidze, the head of the “Sachino”, organization for IDP’s rights.
