Medical Equipments at the Eredvi Out-Patients Department Are Dangerous for Health

April 5, 2007

Employees of the Eredvi Out-patient Department, in the Patara Liakhvi Gorge, stated that they use old equipments when treating patients. Those equipments have become the source for infection. One of their patients hardly survived death after being infected w their medical tools.

The medical personnel of the Out-patient Department appeal to the Ministry of health for help. They say that the finances are not enough for them. In addition to that local government has reduced funds for them.

The medical personnel have already made a list of tools that are necessary for their department. However, nobody has paid attention to them. The out-patient department serves several villages and they have not been equipped with new medical tools for many years.

Zurab Okropiridze, Deputy Chairman of the Eredvi Community Municipality, said in his conversation with Human Rights Centre that the out-patient department receives 7 000 lari from the local budget. He said that the sum is enough to purchase medicines only. As for the building and poor conditions in the office, the chairman wonders why medical personnel is not allowed into the new building of the out-patient’s that has been just built in the village.

Governor of the Eredvi Community, Gia Makhniashvili said that the new building of the out-patient department is finished and only fence should surround it now. They have already equipped it and the employees will son move there. As for the complaints, Makhniashvili said that there is some controversy within the out-patient department itself. Retired and young employees have argument. “Retired employees are afraid of losing job and try to be more active, so they spread information,” said Makhniashvili.
