Starting from June 2 the Georgian Public Broadcasting will be airing a talk show covering ethnic minority issues

May 30, 2007

Yesterday at the presentation of the package of recommendations concerning the implementation of the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities Tamar Kitsurashvili - Director General of Georgian Public Broadcasting announced that the talk show will be a kind of platform for the representatives of ethnic minorities to express their opinions and discuss the problems they face.

“The programming is not limited to the discussion only – the culture, history and current life of the ethnic minorities residing in Georgia will be covered as well” – stated  Tamar Kitsurashvili.

The presentation of the TV programme, according to the GPB Director General, will be held in Abanotubani - historical part of Tbilisi. “A concert will be given in the open air with the participation of ethnic groups. Georgian singers will perform pop songs in the languages of ethnic minorities” – she added.

From September, according to Kintsurashvili, the Georgian Public Broadcasting will offer the audience a series of documentaries about the ethnic minorities living in Georgia. The central media, pays scarce attention to the regions populated with ethnic minorities and a discriminative practice of a kind is to be eradicated – stated the head of the Georgian Public Broadcasting.
