South Ossetian Press and Information Committee Creates Problems to Georgian Journalists

June 18, 2007

Lately Georgin journalists hardly ever manage to enter Tskhinvali and dig up some information. Irina Gagloeva, Head of South Ossetian Press and Information Committee ceased issuing accreditations to the journalists. The Georgian journalists are invited in case it is in the interests of Ossetian side. The Georgian journalists last visited Tskhinvali two weeks ago with the view of obtaining an interview from Boris Chochiev, Minister for Special Affairs regarding water-related issues.

Nino Pisadze regional correspondent with the Georgian Public Broadcasting states that the interest of Georgian media towards the processes progressing in the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia is keen but without Gagloeva’s consent no Georgian journalist is permitted into the city. Therefore the Georgian channels are limited to the telephone comments made by Ossetian officials. Georgian TV channels, according to the Ossetian side, cover the events with partiality and unfairness, thus being denied the accreditation.
