Young People Die of Drug-Addiction in Batumi

July 25, 2007

According to the Human Rights Center, seven young people died of drug over-doze this month in Batumi.

The Center was informed at Batumi based hospitals that several dying drug-abusers are taken to their hospitals everyday. Most of them are under age of 25. Nearly ten people a day visit the Republic Hospital because of toxic poisoning and drug intoxication.

According to the statistics, during six months in 2007, 167 people in Batumi, 17 people in Kobuleti and 25 people in Khelvachauri were condemned for drug abusing.

Human Rights Center is deeply concerned regarding the situation and calls upon the corresponding bodies, media sources and non-governmental organizations to react on the situation.
