The Consideration of the Georgia Writers Association’s Claim Was Postponed

October 23, 2007

Today, the scheduled consideration of a claim concerning the building of the Georgia Writers Association was postponed in the Tbilisi Municipal Court. The reason was the non-attendance of the parties.

The representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Culture, Protection of Monuments and Sports of Georgia did not appear in the courtroom. The consideration was postponed until 15 November.

According to the members of the Georgia Writers Association they are ready to make some concessions which means they are willing to let go of one of the two buildings that were confiscated by the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia. The writers demand to be allowed to keep their building on Machabeli Street, №13. “The judge told the government’s representative that the Georgia Writers Association has a right to reclaim their property and asked the government to make an agreement with them”,- said the head of the Georgia Writers Association, Makvala Gonashvili.
