People were Poisoned by Wine during the Demonstration of the Opposition

November 5, 2007

According to a Member of Parliament of the Conservative Party, Giga Bukia, more than 30 participants of the demonstration in front of the Parliament building were poisoned by wine. According to unreliable information, a 15-year-old juvenile died as a result of poisoning.

As Giga Bukia said during the press-conference held today, Giorgi Gventsadze brought more than 100 liters of wine on tap to Parliament with a red Jeep. He introduced himself to the demonstrators as a local resident and told them that he had been bringing wine from the countryside. Jarji Javakhishvili was handing out the wine. According to Giga Bukia, the poisoning symptoms appeared on demonstrators in the morning after about 7 a.m., in particular they had a cramp and they lost consciousness.

According to Giga Bukia, he took Giorgi Gventsadze’s identity card from him by force. It turned out he is a high-ranking official within the police; he is a vice-colonel.

According to the MP, he saw Gventsadze in the patrol police car this morning. As for Jarji Javakhishvili, the opposition representatives brought him to the Parliament’s security department.

Giga Bukia supposes that it was arranged by the government. The red Jeep was allowed to enter the restricted area without any checks by patrol police officials when even MP’s were not allowed to pass.

The MP of the opposition recommends every demonstrator who drank at least one glass of wine to go to the doctor immediately. According to him, the handing out of wine has been recorded on tape and this wine will be examined.
