Khaindrava Is Interrogated by the Counter-Intelligence Department on Suspicion of Espionage

November 13, 2007

Today at 1:00 PM former State Minister Goga Khaidrava, was called to the Counter-Intelligence Department for interrogation in an ongoing espionage investigation. Yesterday at the briefing held by the United National Council, Goga Khaindrava stated that he had already received summons from the department.

“The government goes on pursuing political leaders and ordinary people, Khaindrava said. “Although several government officials stated that the political persecution of Georgian citizens would end, it did not. Political leaders are still being detained and many demonstrators remain under arrest.”

He also spoke about the January 5 Presidential elections, stating that, “under the current government it will be impossible to hold free and democratic elections.” Khaindrava called upon government officials, “to stop the persecution of political leaders and ordinary people,” predicting that without change, current officials soon be beyond the law.
