From 2021 Commercial Political Advertisements May Be Banned

On May 27, 2020, on behalf of the Member of the Parliament Gia Zhorzholiani from the parliamentary fraction Alliance of Patriots the draft law was registered in the Parliament of Georgia, which aims to ban commercial political advertisements in Georgia from 2021. On June 1, 2020, the Legal Department of the Parliament’s office examined the bill and concluded it met the criteria to be initiated and debated in the parliament.

In Gori, Jaba Romelashvili, 29, tried to burn himself because, as he said, he could not find other solution. After being sacked from the working place, he was left without income and does not know whether he will be able to get the six-month state assistance. Jaba lives together with his mother and his salary was the only income for the family. They could not enjoy the benefits on the communal bills either and finally the family was left without electricity supply.

On April 27, in the morning, he found walnut and fruit trees chopped down in his ancestral plot in Kedeli neighborhood. He demanded the workers, who continued chopping of the fruit-trees, to stop it. The Nun of the Bodbe Monastery, who was supervising the ongoing works, called police and demanded them “take him away from here.” The police warned Tamaz Gorelishvili they would arrest him unless he leaves the territory which belongs to the Patriarchate. The fruit-garden, which belonged to the three generations of the Gorelishvilis family, no longer exists.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs made the decision after the Russian occupation forces started “borderization” nearby the Chorchana village alongside the occupation line. The MIA established restrictions not only in direction of Chorchana village but in direction to almost all villages in Shida Kartli region located nearby the occupation line.
