Changes to Georgian Law on Police Appealed to Constitutional Court

Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) appeals against the changes made in the Georgian Law on Police to the Constitutional Court. According to the head of GYLA, Tamar Chugoshvili, the complaint to the Constitutional Court is filed on behalf of the citizen Davit Shubladze.
The Appeal Court Did not Return Recreation Status to the Digomi Park

The Tbilisi Appeal Court did not change the verdict of the Tbilisi City Court and did not satisfy the suit of Ana Gabriadze and Caucasian Environmental NGO Network (CENN); they protested the amended status of one part of the Digomi forest-park.
Mortality among Prisoners Increased at 50%

Number of dead prisoners in Georgian penitentiary system has increased at 50% from the previous year. The representatives of the Public Defender’s Office state mostly prisoners die because of late medical assistance. Tuberculosis, infections and breathing system problems are top diseases that kill prisoners.

Extortion At Sarpi Custom House in the Name of State

Custom officers seize the purchased goods from most of them claiming they have breached the new rules of duty-payment according to the instruction of the Minister of Finances released on February 1, 2011. However, the stories of the citizens do not show any signs of violation.

The Head of General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was taken to Ghudushauri Clinic on May 3 in the morning. He was severely injured in the area of head by the gun. Yesterday night, the wounded official was taken to one of the clinic in Israel from Tbilisi international airport.

Retired People Without Pension

More than 500 retired people could not receive their pensions in March and April. About 100 families remained without social allowances too. The Revenue Department automatically cut off the money from the pensions of the retired people and allowances of socially disabled families and transferred it to the budget.

April 28 is the International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured in working place. According to statistical data, 81 people have died during their work since 2010. The rights of the employees are not protected by the Georgian Labor Code if they are injured during the labor incidents; if they die on the working place, the Law does not envisage any rehabilitation.

The river Alazani flooded as a result of raining and snow melting in the mountains. As the farmers of Sighnaghi Region informed Kakheti Information Center, the flooded river took away approximately 1 hectare of land. According to them, the river creates particular danger for one of the meanders which covers approximately 15 hectare land. If the meander gets ruptured, this territory will stay on the side of Azerbaijan.

The water problem has still not been solved in Poti. Poti residents no longer believe in the promise of 24-hour water supply and think that the President Saakashvili has lied to them. The water is still provided only once in every two days, just for several hours.
