International Community: Not Surprised, Hunger-Strikers’ & Tents in Tbilisi

February 20, 2008

“The International Community was not surprised to see tents of hunger strikers in Kievi. They will not be taken by surprise when they will soon see the same in Tbilisi. Only Mikheil Saakashvili cannot tolerate the thought,” said Levan Berdzenishvili, one of the leaders of the Republic Party.

He said that opposition leaders consider that opinion of the Georgian society is more important than the assessment of the international community. The latter will receive the message from the up-coming demonstration of February 22 that the Georgian person does like current government.

The MP said during an interview with Medianews that the opposition does not need permission on setting up tents in the city from the Tbilisi City Hall. They have petitioned the City Hall for the purpose of holding demonstrations.

“The government still has the chance to prevent us from setting up tents of hunger-strikers. However, the government should provide guarantees about holding free and fair parliamentary elections,” said Berdzenishvili.
