“National Forum” Reports Three Members of Their Party Were Injured During the So-called “Taxi Incident”

May 27, 2009

“During the incident between the taxi-drivers and demonstrators in Liberty Square members of the National Forum – Zurab Meunargia, Temur Khotivari and Temur Korshia were badly injured,” it was written in the statement spread by the National Forum. According to the Forum the participants of the protest were not taxi-drivers in fact; it was provoked by the National Movement, the ruling party.

“Taxi-drivers confirmed that they did not protest anything and they were involved into the incident,” it is written in the statement.

Besides that, administration of one of the mini-bus company whose drivers also participated in the rally (“Toyota Cars,” the phone is 535 535) reported to the Forum members that in the morning at 11:50 am four taxis were ordered from the mobile phone +995 98 50 29 28 and requested them to come to Rike, Tbilisi. “Four taxis arrived at the place in ten minutes; so-called passengers sat in the taxis, paid 10 GEL to each driver and ordered to go on the circle. Consequently, our drivers became participants of the rally,” statement of the Forum.

According to the Forum the second company of taxi-service which also participated in the rally is Georgian investment group “21st” (with the number 78 78 78; 788 069; numbers of the administration 73 79 31; 73 79 32; address: Javakheti Street 66a Tbilisi; owner Dima Abesadze). The National Forum could not get information how the drivers of this company involved the rally. “As for the real participants of the incident who physically assault the demonstrators they were members and activists of the National Movement who can be recognized in the video-recordings spread by TV Channels. These people were employees of the councils of the villages of Eredvi and Kurta in Gori district: Badri Gochashvili, Arkadi Gochashvili, Jony Gochashvili, Gia Kristesashvili, Kakha Kulashvili, Shota Basishvili, Gia Basishvili, Aleko Otinashvili, Vakhtang Mikeladze and Kakha Datiashvili,” the statement of the Forum.

The statement also reports that former head of Ozurgeti district police department Gelenidze and his brother participated in the incident; these people are relatives of Tako Salakaia, wife of the Minister of Internal Affairs. These people pretended to be taxi-drivers together with other member of the Isani-Samgori office of the National Movement Zurab Kikvadze and his activists.

After the incident in Liberty Square between taxi-drivers and demonstrators the women appeared who protested because of the blocked streets. One of those women was mother-in-law of MP Akaki Minashvili (she also participated in the so-called “Women’s Rally in Liberty Square on April 23) and IDP women living in Samgori district,” statement of the National Forum.
