Functions of the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcasting Will Be Expanded

Chairman of the parliament of Georgia David Bakradze stated that legislative changes will be prepared in near future which will expand functions of the Board of Trustees at the PB. Bakradze made the statement at the session of the parliament.

“Simultaneous to staffing the board of the PB with opposition party members we will work on expanding the functions of the board. In near future we will agree on these legislative changes. Not only the members of the Board will be changed but it will also have its functions increased,” said the chairman of the parliament.

Director General of the PB Gia Chanturia and the chairman of the Board of Trustees Levan Gakheladze met David Bakradze for consulting. MPs Levan Popkhadze, Jondi Baghaturia and Guram Chakhvadze from the opposition parties attended the meeting.

In accordance to the initiative of the president Saakashvili, parliament of Georgia enacted the amendments to the law, and consequently, the number of board members increased up to 15.  The President suggested using the following scheme for staffing the board 7+7+1.
