Sozar Subari: “Government Started Working for the Fabrication of Elections”

November 20, 2009

“Elections have not been scheduled yet but the government has already started working to fraud it,” said co-chairperson of the “Alliance for Georgia” Sozar Subari at the press-conference today. He said the government has already started to create “innovative” schemes to fraud the elections of local government.

“We have information that government plans to fraud election of Tbilisi City Hall and municipality boards in the following way: coordinators of the regional offices of the National Movement (who get salaries) are ordered to select people with the support of the coordinators from Tbilisi and register them in Tbilisi. Their goal is to register about 70-100 people in each election district who will vote for the candidate of the National Movement, the ruling party,” said Sozar Subari.

He said if we consider that there are about 750 election districts in Tbilisi about 75 000 people from the regions will take part in the elections in Tbilisi.

“The government knows they have more problems in the capital and they have worked out this scheme to resolve this problem. The ruling party tries to collect the 30 % for Gigi Ugulava (current mayor of Tbilisi) which turned out so important and principle percentage for the representatives of the National Movement in the group working on the election code,” said Subari.

Sozar Subari said they will start to control the registration procedure of people in the capital and if the number of new registration increases in near future they will inform observing missions and international organizations about the attempt of the government to fraud the elections.

“Besides government, we would like to warn the citizens who will interfere in this fabrication because in future they might face some problems. Here we would like to add that we have concrete informers who have informed us about this intention. However, because of their security we do not want to announce their names. Besides that, we have information that not only the activists of the National Movement, but also officers of the CSD were ordered to register at least 20 peoples in the capital,” said Subari.
