Ia Antadze Surprised at Freedom House Report

July 1, 2010
Journalist Ia Antadze is surprised at the report of the international organization Freedom House. Antadze said she cannot understand the methodology of the survey based on which the Freedom House concluded that freedom of media has increased in Georgia.

“I do not know the details about the media situation in the South Caucasus, but I can confirm that freedom of media is not higher than it was in 2000. I am surprised at this part of the report,” said Antadze.

She said in 2000 there was television in the country which reported alternative information throughout Georgia. Today, there is no similar TV-Company in the country.

“If they mean more developed online sources, I can agree with it but only small part of the Georgian population has access to the internet,” said Antadze.

According to the report of the Freedom House, the freedom of media has increased in Georgia in comparison to 2000. The report also states that Georgian media is the most developed in the South Caucasus.
