The Human Rights Center Will Defend Rights of KazTransGas Subscribers

The Human Rights Center Will Defend Rights of KazTransGas Subscribers

Residents of the 6th Quarter of Vazha Pshavela Avenue in Tbilisi applied to the Human Rights Center for help. The citizens protest the activities of the KazTrasGas which aim to move the gas-meters to the entrances. They claim the pipes used for the purpose do not comply with minimal standards of safety.

In fact, the pipes used by the Gas Distribution Company are certified for cool and hot water pressure. It is very easy to cut and burn the pipes while according to the Article 2 of the Regulation of Gas Supply and Usage the basic principle is safe and non-stop supply of gas to the subscriber with estimated parameters.

It must be noted that the Company did not install various equipments that are necessary for security of the system; furthermore, the pipes for gas are installed next to the electricity wires without any protection systems.

Besides that, in accordance to the law, employees of the Company are entitled to provide subscribers with complete information about the service and upcoming seizure of gas-supply minimum ten days earlier. The KazTransGas breached this requirement of the law too.

The Human Rights Center, having studied the complaints of subscribers, doubts the new system of the gas supply is installed unsafely and requests the Energy and Water Supply Regulation Commission of Georgia to examine the implemented activities of the Gas Distribution Company. The Human Rights Center also requests to carry out all activities that are envisaged under the law in the case violations are discovered.
