“Mazavchikebi” detained after Special Operation in Guria

After a special operation conducted in Lanchkhuti Municipality, the so called “Mazavchikebi” criminal money extortionists were detained. On July 28, the Primary Department of the Guria Region in cooperation with the Lanchkhuti Police Agency performed an operation which resulted in the arrest of four individuals at their homes.

Dima Megreladze, formerly convicted of robbery, Shalva Kukuladze, Valer and Irakli (Iuza) Gogichaishvili, formerly convicted of drug abuse, have been detained. Levan Cherkezia from Lanchkhuti is also under police custody.

According to information provided by the police, large amounts of drugs, marijuana, guns, clothes, money and a BMW car were confiscated.

As the director of the Press Center for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zurab Gvenetadze stated that the detained are being held under a two month preliminary arrest. They are accused of the crimes stipulated in article 180 of the Criminal Code.
In the case the suspects are proven guilty, violation of this law can result in four to seven years of imprisonment. With a prior conviction, it is punishable by seven to ten years.
