MIA Releases Statement on Detention of Veterans

The Ministry of Interior Affairs of Georgia has released a statement regarding the detention of veterans at the Heroes’ Square yesterday.

‘On January 3, 2011 in vicinities of Heroes’ Square the officers of Patrol Police Division detained Zaza Germanozishvili, Ilia Chiloshvili, Valerian Dzebirashvili, Levan Asatiani, Malkhaz Topuria, Amur Revishvili, Sergo Dvali, Levon Asatrian, Leonid Ekhvaia, Shota Iamanidze and Shota Zghudadze, under the articles 166 and 173 envisaged by the Administrative Violations Code of Georgia. The mentioned persons were holding a rally and installed self-made tents at the memorial of heroes fallen for the unity of Georgia.
Participants of rally refused to obey requests of Patrol Police to remove tents, offered resistance and verbally insulted police officers. Some of the rally participants were extremely active, who were under obvious alcohol influence. The detainees have undergone drug examination according to which two of the detainees were under alcohol influence’, the statement says.
