NGOs Start Sitting Demonstrations at Embassies

The activists of the Public Movement “No”, the Public Movement “Solidarity with Arbitrary Detainees”, “The Center for Civil and Political Rights” and activists of the Movement “Homeland, Tongue and Religion” intend to start sitting demonstrations in front of the offices of diplomatic corps and Embassies accredited in Tbilisi from February 21. They will request freedom of arbitrarily detained political prisoners.
 
The directors of the above-mentioned non-governmental organizations stated at the press conference today that first sitting demonstration will start at the US Embassy on February 21 at 09:00 am.

Levan Chitadze - the leader of the Public Movement “No” said they will sit in front of every embassy accredited in Georgia from 09:00 am till 9:00 pm. At 2:00 pm they will hold briefings for journalists.

“The purpose of our protest action is to convince current government to release arbitrarily imprisoned people from prisons. According to our information, there are 350 political prisoners in Georgia. Last year, the government had to envisage the protest of non-governmental organizations and released 7 prisoners,” said Levan Chitadze.
