Imprisonments Taking Place According to the Lists Prepared by Constitutional Security Department

June 3, 2011

interpressnews Press Digest

The Constitutional Security Department (CSD) of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has established the lists of people linked with Public Assembly or to one of its committee Shepitsuli Group.

According to the article of the newspaper Rezonansi (Resonance): “The Constitutional Security Departments started imprisonments according to the preliminary arranged lists i.e. we are talking right now and it turns out that we are classmates, you will be arrested as well.”

According to Rezonansi, there are several tens of people included in the list. The head of the Shepitsuli Group Gia Burjanadze confirmed this information. According to him, the imprisonments have been ongoing for three days now and some detained people or the ones to be detained are just symbolically related to the action of May 21-26.

“Everybody included in the lists of these committees as the members of the Shepitsuli Group are being detained. This started three days ago and has been going on for three days now. They are arresting the members of Public Assembly and the Shepitsuli Group in the whole country. We transferred the information on the corresponding to the diplomatic corpus today. Instead of summoning or warning them about the detainment, they are holding something like the special operations – 8-10 men raid people and take them away. I do not even know what to call this. I am surprised when people see how their neighbor is detained but are silent. It does not matter how many people are detained from the members of Public Assembly and Shepitsuli Group. Every office has a list of its activists and ordinary members. There are people who joined the party earlier but then started to have some problems and stopped coming, but they remained in the lists. As you know the government has many agents, the people who registered who were the members of the political movements. The detainments took place according to these lists,” – stated Gia Burjanadze with the correspondent of the newspaper.

“Nothing is surprising from this government. No matter what kind of evil thing you say about them, nobody will be surprised to hear it. The government representatives are daring to do unimaginable things and then they are proud of it stating that only this kind of action can bring success for Georgia. This process is nothing but the total punishment of people with dissimilar views. This violates the human rights,” – states the political scientist Soso Tsiskarishvili with the correspondent of the newspaper.

“The newspaper Rezonansi found out about the fact that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has the special lists to detain the people from the journalist of the program Weekly Reportage Zviad Tkhelidze – as the journalist stated with us, his private data accidentally fell in such list. The question directed to him in Didi Dighomi agency of MIA was such: are you the member of Shepitsuli Group? “When I was brought to the agency, they showed me a list which included tens of people the members of Shepitsuli Group or Public Assembly to their assumption. I was included in the list as well. I have no idea how come I was there. The names of people were included along with their identification data. I am very sorry for people who are included in the lists. It seems like they are going to be arrested,” – states Zviad Tskhelidze who assumes that he was released just because he is a journalist by profession,” – states the author of the article.
