During their visit in Syria, the delegation of the Abkhazian de-facto authority managed to meet the families, who wish repatriation. Representatives of the Abkhazian Diaspora stated that immediate mass repatriation is impossible to start.

More than 20 people expressed desire to visit Abkhazia to evaluate the situation on the ground before making final decision. They also wonder about Abkhazian society’s feeling about their possible repatriation. According to the press-center of the de-facto Foreign Ministry, the Abkhazian Diaspora appreciated the visit of the delegation of Abkhazia in Syria and thanked them for attention.

The Abkhazian delegation met the representatives of the following Abkhazian family names in Syria: Abaza, Agrba, Marshchani, Gechba, Chichba, Ankvab, Maan, Kujba, Pateipa, Leiba, Ariutaa, and Tsvijba. The Abkhazian de-facto authority continues work in Syria with the support of the Abkhazian Diaspora.

The delegation travelled to Turkey from Syria where they met representatives of the Abkhazian Diaspora.

The delegation was headed by Zurab Adleiba, chair of the de-facto state committee; the members of the delegation were Inar Gitsba, head of Department of Turkey and Near East at the de-facto Foreign Ministry and Feridun Akusba, President of Federation of Abkhazian Culture Centers in Turkey.

The Abkhazian de-facto authority intends to promote repatriation of Abkhaz people living in Syria due to current political crisis in the country. The delegation paid five-day visit to Syria on January 15.
